Basements FAQ
Do basements need a permit?
Yes. Finishing a basement in Maryland needs a building permit, plus electrical and plumbing permits where they apply.
What about moisture?
We check for water issues first. Any waterproofing gets handled before we frame and close up walls.
Do I need an egress window?
Bedrooms in a basement need a code-compliant egress window. We price it as part of the plan.
What goes into a finished basement
- Metal stud or wood framing, insulated against the foundation
- Drywall ceilings or drop ceilings that keep access to pipes and ducts
- Bathrooms, wet bars and kitchenettes
- Egress windows where a bedroom is planned
- In-law suites with a separate entrance
Why metal studs?
Steel studs don’t rot, warp or feed mold, which makes them a good choice against basement walls. Metal stud framing is our own trade on commercial jobs, so we bring the same crews and standards to your basement.
